Frequently Asked Questions

Donating

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Meals On Wheels of Tarrant County is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. You will receive an official year-end tax receipt summarizing your contributions. Please consult your tax advisor to determine how this information may apply to your individual circumstances.

How is my donation used?

Your gift directly funds meal preparation, delivery, and daily wellness checks for homebound neighbors in Tarrant County. $8 provides one meal and a safety check. $40 covers an entire week. $160 feeds one person for a full month.

Can I set up a recurring monthly donation?

Yes. Join our Nourish Network to make an automatic monthly gift of $40 or more. Monthly giving provides consistent support that helps us plan ahead and serve more neighbors.

What other ways can I give?

Beyond online donations, you can support us through planned giving, vehicle donations, employer matching programs, IRA charitable rollovers (age 70½+), or grocery reward programs at Kroger (ID: 80308), Tom Thumb (GNP# 832), and Albertson's.

How do I get a receipt for my donation?

You'll receive an automatic email confirmation after each online gift. A detailed year-end tax receipt is sent in January for all donations made during the previous calendar year.

Do you accept gifts of stock or other non-cash donations?

Yes. We accept appreciated stock, mutual funds, and qualified charitable distributions from IRAs. Our development team can guide you through the transfer process and provide documentation for your tax records.

Getting Meals

See full eligibility details

Who is eligible for home-delivered meals?

Anyone living in Tarrant County who is homebound (even temporarily), unable to prepare nutritious meals, and has no one to help on a regular basis. There are no age or income restrictions; eligibility is based solely on need.

What types of meals are available?

We offer several options based on your needs: hot noontime meals (entrée, two sides, bread, dessert, and beverage) delivered Monday to Friday; Supplementary breakfasts may be available based on need; and weekly frozen meal delivery for clients with regular medical appointments. Your caseworker will determine the best fit.

How do I request meals for myself or someone I know?

Fill out the request form on this page or call 817-336-0912. A caseworker will contact you within 3 to 5 business days (Monday to Friday) to assess your needs.

Is there a cost for meals?

Clients may make a voluntary contribution if able, but no one is ever approved or denied service based on ability to pay. Our services are funded through donations and grants.

What areas do you serve?

We serve all of Tarrant County, Texas, including Fort Worth, Arlington, Haltom City, Mansfield, Keller, and all incorporated and unincorporated areas within the county.

Can I request meals for a veteran?

Yes. We offer a Veterans Assistance program with additional support services. Call 817-336-0912 or fill out the request form and mention veteran status.

Volunteering

How much time does volunteering take?

Meal delivery takes about 1 to 1.5 hours, one day per week, Monday to Friday, between 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Each route delivers 12 to 14 meals in your area.

What volunteer opportunities are available?

We offer several roles: Meal Delivery (weekly route driver), Friend to Friend (visit homebound clients on your own schedule), Client Assistance (help clients with additional needs), and Meal Distribution Site Greeter (welcome drivers at distribution points).

Can I volunteer as a group?

Yes. Church groups, offices, civic organizations, and friend groups regularly volunteer together. Your group is assigned a route and members rotate weeks, so each person delivers only about one day per month.

Do I need training before I start?

Yes. All volunteers attend a training session and complete a background check as part of the registration process. Contact Volunteer@mealsonwheels.org or call 817-258-6426 to schedule your training.

Where do I pick up meals for delivery?

Meals are picked up at a neighborhood distribution site near your home or office. We have multiple sites across Tarrant County to keep your route close and convenient.

I can't deliver meals, can I still help?

Absolutely. Beyond delivery, you can volunteer as a Friend to Friend companion, assist with our Food Pantry program, serve as a Site Greeter, or support us with a financial gift through the Donate page.
